Blowing Rock, Blowing Rock NC

At the entrance of Blowing Rock
The Blue Ridge with Grandfather Mountain in the background. Ever wonder why they are called the "BLUE" Ridge?

With Blowing Rock in the bacground. Located 4000 feet above sea level. Legend has it that a Chickasaw chieftan, fearful of a white man's admiration for his lovely daughter brought his daughter to the Blowing Rock. One day she spied a Cherokee brave and soon the 2 were inseperable. The brave received a sign of trouble in his homeland and had to return. He leaped from the rock to the wilderness below. The maiden prayed everyday for his return until one day a gust of wind brought him back to the rock from the valley below. This is the explanation for the strange winds that blow here even causing snow to fall upside down

Visited Blowing Rock once. A cute little downtown area, and the mountains are beautiful.
